They found that:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Patients who had hearing loss had higher odds of developing postoperative complications compared to those with normal hearing.<\/li><li>Every 10 dB increase in hearing loss was associated with a <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/34711743\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">14% increase in the odds of developing a postoperative complication.<\/a><\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The researchers on this study suggested that hearing tests should be considered as part of a preoperative assessment for older individuals who may need surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Risk of Hearing Loss Increases with Age<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The results of this study are significant because your risk of hearing loss increases as you age. Approximately one out of every three people in the United States <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nidcd.nih.gov\/health\/age-related-hearing-loss\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">between the ages of 64 and 75 has hearing loss<\/a>. That number jumps to almost 50% of those over the age of 75.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>An increased risk of postoperative complications isn\u2019t the only health concern associated with hearing loss.
