Rhinoplasty can make it so you can breathe more easily while running on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newport-news.org\/visitors\/things-to-do\/outdoors-and-recreation\/6\/newport-news-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Newport News Park<\/a>, or it can reconstruct the nose after facial trauma. These include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\"><li><strong>Nasal septoplasty. <\/strong>This procedure is performed to straighten a deviated nasal septum, which is the wall that separates the nostrils.<\/li><li><strong>Inferior turbinate reduction.<\/strong> This surgery addresses the membrane-covered bony structures in the nose that sometimes become enlarged.<\/li><li><strong>Nasal valve repair.<\/strong> This procedure strengthens or enlarges narrow places within the nose.<\/li><li><strong>Cartilage grafts.<\/strong> This can be used to straighten or support the nose during rhinoplasty or nasal airway surgery.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"how-rhinoplasty-is-performed\">How Rhinoplasty Is Performed<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Rhinoplasty is performed in an ENT clinic, surgical facility or hospital. Prior to the surgery, you\u2019ll meet with your surgeon to discuss your medical history, get an examination and review your <a href=\"https:\/\/hamptonroadsent.com\/allergy-sinus\/sinus\/nasal-sinus-surgery\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">goals for surgery<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For the surgery, you\u2019ll be put under either local or general anesthesia. Once you\u2019re comfortable, the surgeon will make incisions under and inside the nose. They will then remove cartilage or shave the bone to create a new shape to the nose.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"after-surgery\">After Surgery<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>After surgery, your surgeon will place a splint to keep the nose in place and stabilize it. You should keep this on for at least five days, though the packing inside the nose can be taken out after a day or two.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>If your surgeon uses absorbable stitches, they will dissolve on their own in time.
