Even when treated successfully with Mohs surgery, the process of being diagnosed and having surgery can take an emotional toll. It\u2019s important to be gentle with yourself and allow space for an array of different feelings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When it comes to physical recovery, part of your instructions will depend on how your surgeon decided to treat the wound. This will determine how to clean and care for the affected area. There are some universal tips for recovery, however, including:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Expect some bruising, swelling and soreness following the procedure. It is normal for the bruising and swelling to get worse for the first few days before it starts to get better. You should be able to manage the pain with over-the-counter medications like Tylenol.<\/li><li>Apply an ice pack for 20 minutes to reduce swelling. You can do this up to once every hour the first couple days after surgery.<\/li><li>Avoid vigorous physical activity and frequently bending over for one week after surgery.<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Slather on Sunscreen<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Sunscreen is a vital part of keeping skin healthy. It is especially important as you recover from Mohs surgery. Healing skin is sensitive and quicker to sunburn. Increased sun exposure also may darken any scar left from the surgery.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The American Academy of Dermatology Association <a href=\"https:\/\/www.aad.org\/public\/everyday-care\/sun-protection\/sunscreen\/understand-sunscreen-labels\">recommends<\/a> using a sunscreen that is SPF 30 or higher. Whether you are out for a quick walk or spending the day at <a href=\"https:\/\/hampton.gov\/3503\/Buckroe-Beach-Park\">Buckroe Beach and Park<\/a>, make sure to use sunscreen before you head out and reapply every two hours.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Remember to discuss any questions or concerns about your recovery process with your doctor.
